First of all, I want to thank Baby Olive for filling in for me on the previous post while I was recouping and regrouping...something I find I need to do more and more of these days. She was a big help...and I miss her and Bella and Bastian so much. Little ones around the house sure do keep you on your toes....quite a different pace than what I've become use to.
And Mother Nature?
First she had a 'hissy fit' and tried to fry our brains in sweltering hot temperatures for most of the week...the hottest temps we've seen in a long time. Most days were in the 90's, but we had a few go well into the 100's. My God, what did we do to piss her off? And when that ploy didn't completely incapacitate everyone, she had one of her typical temper tantrums and hit us with a four-hour, thunder and lightening deluge late last Friday night that flooded numerous areas once again and left many without electricity.
Thank God I didn't lose my power this time; but I did have some water seepage in my basement that I'm still airing-out. The storm was so intense that the ground could not absorb it fast enough. Waking up to this kind of frustration sure puts a damper on things....pun intended.
I guess if there's an optimistic way to look at it.....at least the storm came at the end of our visit. I know one thing for sure...I wasn't about to have it ruin what had been a very special and fun time for all of us.
The tremendous heat might have kept us all from doing everything that we wanted to; but Julie managed to keep Bella and Bastian pretty busy and active nonetheless. A day with some friends and their kids...and a slip and slide in the front yard was a big hit. A play date with some kids of a friend of Aunt Jenna's was a lot of fun. She managed to get them to the pool, library and park on other days....all while finding some time to workout at the gym and spend time with baby Olive too.
While Jory had BlogHer business meetings, etc. for portions of three of the days she was here; Aunt Jenna and I fawned all over Olive....and Aunt Julie did her share too. Jenna is always a hit with the kids....and Olive got to experience how much fun she can be....big time.
We all (including Uncle Joe) managed to go out to dinner one night at one of our favorite places nearby; where the food is good....and so were the kids. Dessert was back at the house where we had bunches of baked goodies from Aunt Jenna waiting for us. Dear Lord....I still have a bunch sitting in my kitchen just calling my name. And, we had plenty to eat with my refrigerator stuffed way more than usual. What diet?
We watched movies, played games, read books, sang songs, wrestled around, hugged and kissed little faces, necks and toes....and laughed a lot.
We mediated kid spats, wiped tears, reinforced rules....and, laughed a lot.
The time went by so quickly. My body ached, my mind raced, and my heart was full. Before I knew it they were all gone, and quiet once again filled the house. Then, I did what I had to do. I organized and regrouped....and, oh yeah, called on Baby Olive. (I think she may take to this blogging thing.) ~Joy xo
