I'm on my way to a doctor's appointment...just checking in about my diet which is going very slowly. I've hit a wall or something. I'm kind of sick of the whole 'diet' thing.
Anyway I've got other problems to think about...
It seems I had yet another leak in my roof...only this time it was in my bedroom ceiling. Yep, a nice little drip by the window. My handyman and his son came out yesterday morning and said a couple of shingles were missing because of a tree I have right there next to my house. They cut some branches, fixed the holes and put new shingles up.
Now what do you suppose they suggest I do next? Yep, they think I should get some estimates to cut that tree down. Actually, my son has mentioned that to me before. He's been concerned about that tree for a while. I just have been putting it off because I haven't wanted to spend the money. I guess I will now. There's just no getting around it. I don't need the grief of worrying about any more roof problems for one thing. Plus my gutters are always full of leaves and junk. So there's another thing I'm opting to do. I'm having my handyman put gutter covers on all of my gutters. Ouch! Well, that's another thing I've decided will help my problems in the long run.
Next project...cutting down that tree...Geesh, I truly am praying that will be the end of it. Look at how one little leak snowballed into all this other stuff....typical.
Can you tell I'm on a little bit of a downer? Yeah....

I hope this venture doesn't cost tooooo much.

It's always something, isn't it? That's why I finally gave up the ghost and sold my house and now live in a small apartment, with all maintenance problems taken care of with a call to the manager.

Oh I can empathize with you. I went through the same thing a couple of years ago. In the end, it cost me several thousand dollars, but the tree removal only accounted for $300 of the expense. Not only did my roof leak, but the water was coming in an alcove that had been added on in several places. I hope just removing the tree works. If the tree is that close to your house the roots could cause problems, too. Best to not put it off. Houses, like bodies, get expensive to maintain.
Good luck with the diet. I keep putting that off. ;-)

I'm always on that kind of downer around here. Our home is close to 35 years old now, and there is always something to be done.

This happens if you want to give a room a new coat of paint. You end up buying new carpets and curtains and having a plasterer in because you found some loose plaster . . . It's never EVER easy. Hang in there Joy!

As Peggy infers, each repair/upgrade makes its surrounds look shabby. There is no stopping place!
Cop Car
P.S. Egads! Will you look at this? My ISP/browser will actually let me post!

Ah, perk up, remember it can only get worse. At least you don't have a water torrent racing through your house I recall your describing as you coped by dancing around your coffee table.
So you end up having to be a homeless person 'cause you went broke with all the repairs! I'm looking at some unwanted expense of a different kind myself. I figure it will just give me an opportunity to meet some new friends I might not otherwise encounter. I just hope I can keep my new laptop so I can keep in touch with my blogger friends. You could do worse!!!
Do hope your financial pain is minimal and this will soon all be behind you -- so you have time to prepare for the onslaught of whatever the next thing is. Sorry, I meant to end this on a serious note of commiseration.

Yes Joy, It IS always something. I know you long for a few weeks or months of nothing to do but take care of YOURSELF and not the roof or the tree or the gutters.
Geesh. Houses are wonderful as shelter from the storms but they can also be whiny, cry babies, creaking and begging for our attention.
Courage.

Dear Joy ~~ I am so sorry you are having more roof problems and hope you can get rid of the tree. That is very expensive here. But it should save further maintenance for you. I have had oodles of mammograms and they are uncomfortable, but can be life-saving, so worth the effort. I have only one breast and they try to grab the chest wall and get pictures of it, not easy.
Thank you so much for your messages. I had a wonderful week
and many lovely surprises. I like that burgundy velvet skirt and top
and wore it on my 65th. Must dig up that pic. Take great care, dear Joy. Much love, Merle.

You've got company, my dear. I hope the weight thing is not too serious, because I have seen people's weight go clear out of control. I'm hanging in there, just glad not to be gaining, but I've been shocked at seeing old friends after a period of time who look like they have doubled in size since I last saw them. Is it something we don't understand in the environment or our diets besides just calorie intake?
As to house maintenance and the yard and all that: they take up so much of our time, which we don't mind right now. But that could change. We aren't kids around here!
