Holy Guacamole! What happened to Grandma?
Well, I'm back home from my visit to see the babes. I just thought I'd check in with a short post to say hi....and that I've missed you all.
I had such a great time with the kids and my daughter and son-in-law. Did all the things Grandmas' do....kissed the babes until their little cheeks were pink, had tea parties, changed poopy diapers, bathed sweet little butts, read stories, did some serious coloring, played peek-a-boo, listened for hours on end at gurggling and cooing, woke up earlier than usual just to nestle with sleepy heads, ran after little feet, watched kiddie tv, stared...and watched....and breathed in the joy of being a child....completely.
Beyond the above itinerary, we had dinner out a couple of times, ran some errands, shopped at the mall, went to the park, had some great meals and simply enjoyed good (and needed) face-to-face conversation and a lot of laughter.
Now, will someone please tell me why the heck I was pooped out by 10:00 every night and could barely keep my eyes open? My agenda was hardly strenuous. I can only assume the stress from the previous months with my mother's illness and death must have wiped me out more than I knew. There was a time when I'd be up until all hours chatting with the kids....it was my favorite thing to do. I felt like I was letting everyone down. There were a couple of nights when I thought I'd beat Bella to bed...she already beats me down the stairs. Shame Grammy, shame! At least my daughter, Jenna, 'hit the hay' early most nights too...she was feeling kind of tired the whole visit. Of course, now we find out she has been a little anemic and needs to be on some iron supplements for a while. At least she had an excuse.
By the end of the visit my body felt like it had gone ten rounds with Mike Tyson. EVERYTHING was achy.....my knees, my hips, my back, my legs, my feet, and my head. Whoa...it's not exactly how I remember it. I raised 4 kids, and was busier than I can even remember; but I don't remember wanting to go "night-night" through any of it.
My daughter and grandkids came back with me for another 10+ day visit with other family members and friends. Today is our first full day back. I have managed to catch a cold from Bella and feel pretty washed out. I can't remember the last time I had a cold. I NEVER GET COLDS...well, hardly ever. And, I'm still achy beyond belief. My poor body is retaliating big time! Goodbye agility....hello ibuprofen! And I've got a couple of weeks to go. HELP! Pray for me!
